STUDENT TRIBUTE TO DAN McCALL

(ILLUSTRATED STORY)

In addition to being an author of ten books of fiction and non-fiction, Dan McCall taught American Studies at Cornell University for forty years. He was a dynamic and popular teacher; one student remarked that his classmates “thought of Dan as a rock star.” Over the years Dan formed enduring friendships with a number of former students.  One protégé composed the following tribute: “The Dan McCall Story:  A Half-Century Retrospective in Vivid Black and White.”  The illustrated story has a number of inside jokes for people who knew Dan well. It also touches on aspects of his early experiences as an entertainer, his career as a novelist, his struggles with substance abuse, and his various idiosyncrasies as both a teacher and a friend.
